 First
off, call me "Jim". I've got 22 years of experience in the global
mining industry. I have worked in precious and base metals exploration and development
in Canada and Chile, where I was part of the team that discovered the Ujina
copper deposit in Chile, now in production.* I earned an MBA from London Business
School, London, England, and worked with SG Warburg and Co. in London on cross-border
merchant banking transactions and ws a gold analyst for Ord Minnett Stockbrokers
Limited. In Canada, I was the Senior Mining Analyst for Newcrest Capital Inc.
where toeing the line on corporate finance clients was pretty important in analysis!
I was also the
co-manager of the TD Greenline precious metals and resource (mutual) funds for
the Toronto-Dominion Bank. with responsibility for all initial equity selections
for Africa, Australia, and South America.
I started Mining
Insights Inc. in 1999, to provide investors with the information you need and
won't get from other industry parties. I speak English, French, and Spanish
and live in Toronto, Canada.
*Do you want to
know what making a major orebody discovery is like? I went into the office at
the end of the day and said to the Chief Geologist (in Spanish) "Hey, Juan,
there is 5% copper at the bottom of the last hole." Ricardo, the draftsman,
noted "Steel has been here for two years and still can't estimate copper
content!" The sample ran 4.5% copper. Juan and senior geo Guillermo had
a look and went ballistic. We skipped dinner that night and by the next morning,
I had two more drills (and less than no spare time).
